Algerian Fabrications on Moroccan Officers in Israel: A Disinformation Saga

    The Emergence of Dubious Claims

A recently circulated document from sources aligned with the Algerian military regime has made unsubstantiated claims about Moroccan officers supposedly being victims of Iranian aggression in Israel. According to this document, two Moroccan officers were killed and another injured during Iranian strikes on Israeli military installations, specifically while allegedly in training at the Meron base in Israel. However, this assertion relies entirely on unverified information, lacking credible sources or evidence.

    Inconsistencies and Lack of Verification

The document, which has been disseminated across various social media platforms and peripheral media outlets, is fraught with inconsistencies and poor language construction. No official acknowledgments or confirmations have come from Israeli, Moroccan, or any independent bodies to suggest the presence of Moroccan military personnel in the targeted location. Analysts in geopolitical circles highlight the classic characteristics of disinformation: a scarcity of credible sources, ambiguous language, and the utilization of genuine events for misleading political narratives.

    Instrumentalization of Disinformation

For years, the Algerian authorities have wielded disinformation as a tactical tool in both diplomatic and military arenas, with a particular focus on Morocco. The core intention is clear: to undermine Morocco’s image on the global stage and to fuel tensions through deceitful revelations. Morocco’s evolving strategic cooperation with Israel appears to be a persistent irritant for Algeria, prompting such propaganda.

The recent confirmed strikes by Iran on Israeli sites did happen, yet linking them to an alleged Moroccan military presence is entirely speculative, devoid of factual basis. This specious narrative aims to exploit heightened sensitivities around Palestinian and Iranian conflicts to incite division and animosity.

    Response to Propaganda

The method employed is reminiscent of historical propaganda strategies: fabricate an adversarial entity, accuse Morocco of malicious alliances, leverage empathies linked to broader geopolitical issues, and disseminate these narratives through a well-established disinformation apparatus. Observers note that this episode highlights an intensifying information warfare, urging Morocco to embrace transparency and swift communication to combat such misinformation effectively.
